So you're feeling stuck? Past traumas are tying you down? Does daily anxiety keep holding you back from joy? You feel trapped when all you really want is to stretch free and bloom. I won't try to "fix" you. Instead, like a gardener, I'll foster a safe environment that encourages your growth and your healing. Together we'll tend to the soil of your life, dig up the weeds that hold you back, and give you the space you need to bloom into the light.

It can be difficult to come to a psychologist's office to speak about our lives and people often suffer in silence because they believe their problems are too large, too small, unimportant or that nothing can bring about change. It is important to work through the things that cause us depression, anxiety or discomfort. Therefore, I approach every person as a special individual having unique experiences. While providing a safe, relaxing setting, I look for ways we can work together to change even the most tumultuous circ*mstances into calm, peaceful situations which lead a client to have enjoyable lives.

There is nothing more consistent than change, change has to take place for growth to occur. The majority of my patients consisted not of believers but of those who had lost their faith. I enjoy working with incredible people enriching their lives and relationships. I support the client with focusing on what’s ahead of them, and discover that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

The stigma attached can be a deterrent to good mental wellness as well as cultural conditioning, tradition, and limited access. It is important for the therapist to understand the cultural language being spoken even before a word is uttered. When you feel understood, you feel empowered. I offer a safe space without judgment. Welcome to my place! I am a trauma-focused therapist with extensive training and experience treating persons with PTSD, anxiety, depression, formerly incarcerated persons, women's issues, conflict resolution, and life coaching.

You feel like the odd one out, even though you try your hardest to fit in with everyone else. You feel depressed or anxious and try to suppress it, pretending everything is fine while you are suffering. No matter how many people you talk to, you just can't seem to make a genuine connection. You may have many friends but still feel emotionally lonely. Despite your best efforts, you cannot form meaningful relationships with other people. You find it impossible to trust others enough to allow yourself to be vulnerable. Maybe you've already had years of therapy, and while some symptoms have subsided, something is still missing.

Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
