Introduction

Allegedly somewhere in the U.S. there is a place called "Binny's", and apparently the first storefront was on the corner of Clark & Sheffield. And somehow, this proprietary whiskey found its way to Texas, locked in a Vault with a Somm and a Mooch. A tangled web of intrigue.

Thanks to Shawn Walters for the bottle. Cheers ya MB!
(And to Benevolent Bastard Tyler Mintz for the restock!)

Welcome to the whiskey ball, I'm daniel, I'm rex.

Now I'm seeing the shape of this bottle from behind.

I think I know you think it's jack daniels, but it's not oh okay! Now uh, I will say first um up in the list, was a kings county, peated, bourbon, okay, that was given to us by tyler mintz.

Can we put jack daniels in the title, because those will always get good views, I'm kidding sure um.

This is given to us by tyler mintz as a peter king's county, bourbon, we've already reviewed it twice like twice: we've talked about it, okay, so this is a benevolent bastard from tyler mintz.

He gave us a full-size bottle, which is up in the uh back stock.

So this is your benevolent bastard all right now this is from magnificent bastard sean walters, sean walter.

You magnificent blaster.

This is a clark and sheffield okay.

Now you do.

You know well, hang on a second.

Let me pour and then refocus in the great history of store brands.

Like total wine has their spay river and history.

You know it's like a retail store works with an outsider to create their own brand.

Sure right.

Well, have you ever heard of benny's penny's beverage depot? No, if you are in the liquor industry and pay attention to the industry, you've heard of benny's, I have not, and no I don't yes, exactly uh ev benny's is one of like people will say things like this yeah.

We got our stuff into total wine and specs and bennies as as its own store right.

Okay, we got into this business and we got it into benny's yeah.

It's a it is a destination famous okay location like regionally because chicago all right.

So this is not a texas thing.

No, no! No! No! All right! That's up up there, so they sourced kentucky bourbon from the founders company in louisville yeah, who creates you know basically source brands yeah, and this is their bourbon okay, budget bourbon right.

We honestly originally for like 20 something bucks.

Yeah at certain points were on sale for like 12 bucks.

So you haven't said anything to me: that's a present! Yet yeah uh kentucky yep.

You got that really kind of sweet, um, bourbon nose and then the budget, the the budget thing is isn't surprising because it tastes it smells kind of like a little bright.

It's gonna be a lower proof for sure yeah, but we're right down the middle of the road for this classic budget.

Bourbon flavors coming right out of kentucky man, that's right, yeah and, ironically, 45.

Okay, didn't even go to the floor, yeah all right.

I appreciate that and then like brown, sugar and cherry on the nose for me yeah and that slight citrus on this, and this is brighter.

What was the bourbon? We were trying the other day that smelled brighter.

Instead of darker, it wasn't wild turkey 101.

That was the halfway point and makers was was makers.

The bride went to weed bourbon, though uh buffalo trace was between the two yeah.

So this isn't a buffalo.

No, it's not bubba! I'm trying to give another budget bourbon.

That would be close to this yeah.

To compare it.

Maybe just straight up, maybe evan williams ooh, try it that's, really sweet.

I want to do four roses.

Oh yeah and a big old honey sweetened oak on that palette there.

You know what that was actually a little bit nicer on the flavor than I was.

I was anticipating for a sourced budget bourbon.

What do you think? Which one is that budget for roses? Ironically, four roses is known for being pretty sweet yeah.

That's why I'm waiting for this is sweeter than the four roses.

It is wow, I'm getting more oakiness on the four roses than I yeah than I am the clerk in sheffield.

I'm gonna do the evan williams, bottled and bond.

That's what I'm saying my memory of that may not still gotta.

Is it at least closer than the four roses? Why do you always exhale in the glass with your nose fog, it's more sweet than the four roses more sweet than the evan williams too wow.

Well yeah.

It is more sweet than williams um.

But I'd say in terms of I mean we're just going a little sweetness sweeter than the evan williams.

Evan williams is sweeter than the four roses in this abc comparison.

Ah, what's another one that would be, although the taste of that evan williams, that sweetness jumps up there, pretty quick for me still doesn't complete with the sheffield.

It's all the sweetness of a bourbon and the oak tannins are just so so far back if you're into evan williams, bottled and bond territory, you're not going to be disappointed by this yeah, I think same kind of tear of uh flavors.

Damn it! Oh did you forget again again, so we can't get these comments.

I'm sorry we're keeping these comments like daniel doesn't have some dying on.

You know why, because I for the life of me cannot remember four years of shooting video we start putting on lobs yeah.

It's the muscle, mirror it's the muscle memory.

If I put something here and my brain says, you're done you're done with the thing around your neck and I move on and I don't I can't figure it out.

Dan's gonna have to like stick around every video before he hits record and be like yeah daniel.

Did you put your medallion on yet you know what I like.

I like it better than the entry level four roses.

I don't like it better than evan williams, but I like it better than four roses.

Now the four roses there's a single barrel, that's in a different bottle right: oh there's, much better! Four roses: yeah! That's the one I'm just talking in the budget line of which this four roses is the one where yeah yeah, that's nicer, but the the single barrel for roses is a small bat you're talking.

Well, that's a different tier of quality.

I think yes, very so price point I'm assuming yeah, okay uh, but yeah.

It's it's a respectable, respectable classic bourbon terry mork.

Once I stumbled upon the whiskey tribe of new magnificent bastards, I went a little crazy and purchased almost 30 different bottles in two months whoa.

I am quite happy with the collection, but I don't want to have 30 open bottles.

How long can whiskey keep in its bottle pretty long time? Okay, so here's the thing that I keep people keep not mentioning when I look up to the bank pretty long time.

I think think of this.

When people keep mentioning this, they don't mention this one thing which is look if it's in a cool place and the seal is sealed, yeah right, it can be there indefinitely like a very long time as in like five six, seven years without being a problem.

The problem comes when you keep opening and closing it opening and closing it opening and closing it, but it sits for years and years right because you keep refreshing the air that's in there and you get more evaporation and so on.

But if it is sealed and left to sit and not touched, then it can go on for a very long time if you're regularly going back to it probably a year or two, he says very long time.

I say pretty long time very so we're very helpful.

Oh yeah I'd say we're pretty helpful.

Uh I'd say very helpful.

Fair enough.

We got jay jay captain question about alliance release.

What exactly can we talk about elijah? Well, no, it's a question we're not from we're not selling it all right, we're not doing any calls.

What exactly does an alliance release mean? I understand the whiskey andalusia, but I guess I don't understand what, on our end, makes it alliance yeah.

That's a word now, okay.

So this matters because uh and here's why I just actually wrote an article for a book.

That's coming out on texas, whiskey, specifically talking about independent bottling, yeah and how it's extremely common in scotland, like caden, head duncan taylor, signatory right and it's when an independent company buys a barrel from a well-known distillery and simply proofs it down and or sits on it for a little longer and bottles it right and in america.

It's very rare.

There's a lot of people sourcing for scotch there's a lot of people.

It's there's less a dozen or less right, even tiptoeing into it in america.

What happens? Is people buy whiskey from other people and then rebrand it right.

That's like sourcing and it's basically like a white labeling type of deal right, you source it.

You smack something else on the bottle label there and then call it a day.

What we wanted was to feature use our reach to feature craft distilleries that we like yeah, and so we went to these distilleries like analysis, balconies, ranger, creek wyoming and we bought a barrel brought it back either aged a little bit longer or proofed it down just slightly and then just bottled it as one barrel, and so what we're giving our people a chance is to try andalusia, whiskey, not our whiskey, yeah, andalusia, whiskey, effectively right, but a single barrel release and yes, close to cast strength as possible.

He's asking about andalusia, but we've done that with several different distilleries yeah and that's what that is.

It's not andalusia, style whiskey that we made it's actual whiskey from andalusia, distillery, yeah, just a way to feature people doing really good quality things in the craft scene, yeah, yeah uh! I like it, not blown away.

I think um it can go toe-to-toe with several other larger brands in this price point with those types of classic flavors a little bit of uh, you know lighter sweeter, classic bourbon, flavors kind of on the budget into the spectrum flavor-wise, but still nice.

If you're into that kind of thing, yep, here's to finding stealing and drinking, if you find me a fight for a friend steal, may you steal your liver, sorry and if you drink may drink with us.
