① Boiler Room Generator Puzzle ② Piano Puzzle ③ Keypad Code Puzzle ④ Terminal Hacking Puzzle ⑤ Lockpick Puzzle ⑥ Radio Signal Puzzle ⑦ Safe Code Puzzle ⑧ Crack the Safehouse Safe |
1. Fix the Basement Boiler Room Generator
Before you can even explore the secret area of the safehouse, you'll first need to power it. Head down to the Basement Boiler Room and restart the generator to restore the secret area's power.
How to Solve the Boiler Room Puzzle | |
---|---|
1 | Find the Basement at the 1st floor of the Safehouse and head into the Boiler Room. |
2 | Inside the Boiler Room, turn the Boiler valve 2 times until the meter reads 0 and the water leaking animation stops. |
3 | Next, turn the Fuel Line valve once or until the meter reads 50. |
4 | Next, press the button to turn on the Pilot Light. A small green light should turn on indicating that it's now on. |
5 | Finally, turn the Boiler valve 2 times again to fill it up with water. The meter should read 100. You'll know the power is restored if you can no longer interact with any of the valves and buttons. |
2. Play the Piano to Unlock the Secret Area
With power restored, it's time to find the entrance to the secret area. Head to the Piano Room at the first floor of the safehouse and pick up the Blacklight. Next, interact with the piano and play the following sequence in order to open the secret door : Mi > Re > Ti > Do > Re.
If you want to find the notes you need to play for yourself, follow the steps below:
Piano Puzzle Solution | |
---|---|
1 | Pick up the Blacklight on the coffee table near the Piano. |
2 | Shine the Blacklight on the walls around the Piano room to reveal the musical note progression you have to play. List down the musical notes from 1 to 5 (they'll be in Russian so they won't really make sense right now). |
3 | Next, interact with the Piano and use the Blacklight again to figure out what each of the Piano keys are in Russian. On PC, shine the Blacklight on the section above the keys to find the cipher. Play the following musical note progression afterwards: Mi > Re > Ti > Do > Re. |
4 | If done correctly, the Secret Area entrance should open up automatically. Go down the stairs to enter the secret basement of the Safehouse. |
3. Decipher the Keypad Code to the Mainframe Room
Upon reaching the new secret basement area, look for a locked door with a Keypad. Interact with it to solve the Keypad puzzle and unlock the Mainframe Room. Since the code varies each time you attempt this puzzle, here are some tips to help you solve it:
- Use the Blacklight to find the the buttons with the most presses (thicker fingerprint marks). These are guaranteed to be part of the code so input them at least once when you start to decode the puzzle.
- Buttons with fewer presses may or may not be part of the code. Try them out and if they result in a red X, then they are confirmed to be not part of the code.
- Buttons with lots of presses can appear in the sequence more than once. Those with fewer presses will only appear once.
- If a number is marked green in the Decryption Log, it means it is correct and in the right position.
- If a number is marked yellow in the Decryption Log, it means it is correct but in the wrong position.
- If a number is marked red in the Decryption Log, it means it is not part of the code.
4. Hack the Terminal in the Mainframe Room
Head inside the Mainframe Room and look for a computer terminal inside. Interact with it to start the hacking puzzle. Match the numbers to their letters using the cipher at the bottom of the screen in order to figure out the Code Word shown at the top of the screen.
All Deciphered Code Words | |
---|---|
BUNKER | OPEN |
ROOM | HOLDING |
Note: The order of the words and the cipher you use will vary per playthrough. However, the words you spell out will remain the same so it'll be as easy as matching the length of the Code Word to the solutions shown above.
5. Pick the Lock of the Interrogation Room
Next, exit the Mainframe Room and head to the now unlocked Interrogation Room. Its door should be open slightly making it easy to spot. Once inside, pick the lock of the door leading into the torture chamber. Retrieve the Key on one of the tables inside.
Note: Lockpicking is a pretty easy minigame. Simply rotate the right stick (controller) or your mouse (PC) until you find the sweet spot of a locking pin. Once at the sweet spot, hold the position for a bit until the pin clicks in place. Do this for the rest of the pins to lockpick the door.
6. Find the Source of the Radio Signal
With the Key in hand, look for the room where a Signal Detected pop-up appears. Use the key to open the door before interacting with the small Radio (near the TV) inside.
For this puzzle, simply rotate the Amplitude and Frequency knobs until the small green light beside each one lights up (you don't even have to look at the wave display). Once both green lights are lit, a recording with a Russian Voice will play.
How to Find the Radio Signal Room | |
---|---|
1 | From the Interrogation Room's torture chamber, exit into the main hallway of the Secret Area. |
2 | Upon reaching the hallway, turn right and head back to the cross intersection of the Secret Area. |
3 | At the intersection, turn right into a long hallway (opposite the entrance to the Mainframe Room where you solved the Keypad puzzle). |
4 | The Radio Room will be at the end of this long hallway. Use your newly acquired Key to open the door and enter the room. |
7. Get the Safe Code by Listening to the Broadcast
Finally, in order to get the safe code, listen to the Russian Voice and pay attention to the context clues it gives out. Each clue will correspond to an item within the room. List down the number of each mentioned item in order to figure out the 4-digit safe code.
Note: Each recording and safe code will be different per playthrough. Listed below are some examples of recordings, their clues (in bold), and the codes you get for each:
Phrase | Safe Code |

Ivan switched off the lamp by the broom closet, only the glow of the television remaining. He watched proudly as his country's flag flashed across the screen. | 1836 |
While Uncle played guitar, he watched as I prepared shashlik on the grill. When I asked the day of the rocket launch, he simply nodded toward the calendar. | 7409 |
After someone left the iron on the windowsill, the curtain caught fire. The American didn't notice. He was too busy watching cartoons on television while eating sugar-coated cereal. | 4037 |
A record played the sounds of a rocket launch. I was disappointed, wanting to see it on film instead. "When you're older," my sister said, as she used the iron to press our father's work clothes. | 5024 |
"It's not just an ashtray," Grandfather said. "It's marked with our ancestral crest." I sank into the couch, annoyed at his gift. Grandfather leaned forward in his chair. "Be proud of your heritage." | 8935 |
There was a love letter taped to the chalkboard, which was hidden behind a makeshift curtain. He eyed the woman sitting on the rug as she listened to the sounds of his guitar. | 2087 |
He slumped on the couch, his wife's purse still missing. He noticed the calendar marked with his brother's birthday, just under the memorial flag. | 3196 |
She stood in the dim light of the lamp, weeping at the family crest. Somewhere nearby, folk music played from a record. The girl's tears fell to the rug below. | 1958 |
8. Open the Safehouse Safe
Finally, your last step is opening the Safehouse Safe. This will officially complete the Safehouse Puzzles, rewarding you with the achievement, The Puzzles, Mason, as well as all the contents of the safe.
How to Find the Safehouse Safe | |
---|---|
1 | From the main entrance of the Safehouse, head up the stairs. |
2 | At the top of the stairs, turn left until you see the door near one of the second floor windows. |
3 | Head inside this room to find the locked safe. |
