AIS Membership Benefits
The American Iris Society (AIS) offers several types of memberships.
Print Membership
- The printed copy of the AIS Bulletin is mailed to you quarterly. If you want to create your own library of AIS Bulletins, this membership type is for you. No access to online services.
E-membership
- This is the most affordable plan, which contains online services for the budget-conscious gardener.
- Access to the Online Integrated System: the online database of iris registrations and introductions maintained by The American Iris Society. The AIS is recognized and acknowledged as the official world registry of non-bulbous iris cultivars. To obtain the latest copy of the iris registrations and introduction checklists please visit the AIS Storefront. For more information on the iris cultivar registration process please go Iris Registrations.
- Access to the AIS Bulletin Library: The library within the e-membership area contains AIS Bulletin issues in PDF format from the very first edition in 1920 to the present.
- Access to the AIS Basic Iris Culture booklet: The AIS Basic Culture booklet within the e-membership area is published by The American Iris Society. Enjoy the recently published 2024 black & white edition while we work on the color version, which will be available later this year.
- Access to the AIS Library of Historic Iris Catalogs: The AIS has created a library of electronic copies of historic iris catalogs within the e-membership area. This will be an ongoing project with new material that will be added to this resource from time to time.
Full Membership
- This is the most complete of all membership types — it combines the benefits of both Print and E-Membership. It includes a quarterly printed copy of the AIS Bulletin, and also a digital copy of the same, which is available sooner than the printed copy.
- Access to the entire Bulletin Library (PDF), from its first edition in 1920 to the present (2024).
- Access to the latest edition of the Basic Iris Culture. Enjoy the 2024 edition in black & white for now. The color copy with lots of pictures is coming out later in the year and will be available online as soon as it’s ready.

Sections & Cooperating Societies
The Iris family is huge and made up of many different types of irises. Some gardeners specialize in a particular type of iris, such as tall bearded, Siberian, Spuria, Louisiana or Japanese. For those of you who love a particular type, there are specialty groups, called Sections or Cooperating Societies, who discuss their particular interest. These groups are part of The American Iris Society. All of these groups have their own publications and social media. Many offer mini-conventions and tours. If you have an interest in a particular type of iris, you might want to meet some like-minded iris fans in addition to being a member of AIS
